Luen Thai Launches Charity Initiative through "iServe. iGive back"On December 11, Luen Thai Holdings, through its CEO Henry Tan, officially launched its Charity Initiative during the company's Christmas party. Around 80 participants were present including members of the executive and management teams. "As Luen Thai continuously grows and becomes more successful, we also must continue to grow in our commitment to being a good corporate citizen," said Mr. Tan. "Our charity initiative aims to make Luen Thai and its partner companies valuable members of their respective communities, thus we adopt the slogan "iServe.iGive back." During the Christmas party, Mr. Tan also unveiled Luen Thai's official charity logo. The logo, a big heart made up of a chain of people holding hands, symbolizes the cooperation of all members of Luen Thai to serve and give back to their community. "I encourage everybody to support our charity initiative. Aside from financial support, we can all give our time to help those who are less fortunate. " Mr. Tan added. Historically, the Tan family including Henry and founder and chairman Dr. Tan Siu Lin has always supported various charitable activities with emphasis on educational programs and serving in social welfare organizations. For example, Dr. Tan has donated millions of renminbi's worth of financial support to various institutions such as Sun Yat Sen Education and Charity Foundation; National Huaqiao University in Quanzhou, China; Po Leung Kuk Camoes Tan Siu Lin Primary School inĀ Yaumatei, Kowloon, Hong Kong; Peking University; and Quanzhou Normal College. Henry, on the other hand, has served as chairman of the Po Leung Kuk (PLK) in 2005. PLK is a social welfare organization in Hong Kong. Under his term (April 2004 to March 2005), many projects were implemented such as continuous training program on language and skills for the children under PLK's care; enlarging foster care service; expanding counseling service for men and training service for women; and construction of rehabilitation center for handicapped people. Disaster Relief Apart from the financial support to educational projects and serving in social welfare organizations, Luen Thai management and employees also joined hands in providing aid to disaster victims such as the Asian Tsunami of 2004 which hit several countries along the coast of Indian Ocean including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand; the Sichuan (China) Earthquake in 2008; and Typhoon Ondoy (International Name: Ketsana) in the Philippines last October 2009. Children & Elderly Welfare Indeed, Luen Thai's commitment to charity is marked by a long history. In December 2009, the company has even made a greater commitment to charity through "iServe. iGive back." For Luen Thai's executive and management team, together with its employees, serving and giving back to the community will remain one of its top priorities.
