Luen Thai Philippines Upholds Commitment to Children's Welfare and MoreFor the past six years, Luen Thai Philippines has continued to demonstrate its commitment to charity via its numerous children's welfare activities, disaster relief activities, and donations to minorities such as indigenous groups and elders. From members of the executive and management team, office staff and production, everyone pitches in to show care and compassion to their fellow community members in regular charitable activities since 2003. In fact, besides being well known as the Philippines' leading garment producer and exporter, Luen Thai Philippines has also earned a reputation for being a socially responsible company, as demonstrated in 2007, when the Clark Investors and Locators Association (CILA) awarded Luen Thai Philippines for "playing an active role in outreach programs." One of the earliest charity programs of Luen Thai Philippines included the 2003 Sining Chikiting, an art contest for children of company employees wherein 4 winners were chosen and provided with four year high school scholarship and cash prizes. The same year was marked by numerous activities such as disaster relief activities for flood victims in partnership with TV network ABS-CBN, visit and donation to orphanage Children’s Home of Immaculate Heart of Mary, and home for the aged Bahay Pag-ibig House of Prayer. From 2004 to 2008, regular visits and donation to various orphanages in Pampanga were conducted by Luen Thai Philippines' management and employees. Among them were Reception & Study Center for Children; The Haven; Duyan Ni Maria; and Humble House of Nazareth. These centers house orphaned, special and disabled children. Most recently, Luen Thai Philippines engaged in a series of activities in helping the victims of Typhoon Ondoy which struck the country last October. The typhoon brought severe flooding in Metro Manila and other parts of the Philippines as well as landslides, leaving hundreds of residents displaced. The activities included packing of 7,000 clothes donation led by Marilet Penaflor, vice president for Luen Thai Philippine Operations, last October 3; repacking of goods bought from the Luen Thai donation worth P500,000 to Confederation of Garment Exporters of the Philippines (CONGEP) held in CTSI Logistics in Paranaque last October 7; and turnover of relief goods to victims in Candaba, Pampanga last October 16. In addition, Luen Thai Philippines donated 2,500 pieces of clothes to typhoon victims in partnership with Clark Development Corporation (CDC) / Clark Investors and Locators Association (CILA). Indeed, as a socially responsible employer, Luen Thai Philippines has continued to do its share in reaching out and helping various community groups, showing a serious dedication to charity.
