Luen Thai 's Lean and Green Best Practices Shared in adidas Stakeholder DialogueLuen Thai's lean manufacturing programs and green initiatives in the Dongguan Supply Chain City and Yuen Thai Industrial Company Limited (YTI) were shared by YTI director Nigel Bennett in the adidas' Environmental Supply Chain Strategy Development and Energy Management Stakeholder Dialogue in Hong Kong last April 7, 2009. Also present during the seminar were Lyn Ip, adidas - regional manager, environmental, health & safety and Bill Anderson, vice president of SEA in Asia Pacific. "Luen Thai's commitment to protecting the environment is a business strategy and is about partnership," Mr. Bennett shared during his presentation. According to Luen Thai Dongguan Supply Chain City general manager and vice president Alex Chan, the company has invested around RMB10 million for its environmental upgrade projects such as waste water treatment and water recycling facilities. One of the company's latest "lean and green" best practices was a volunteer clean-up and tree planting activity held within the Luen Thai Dongguan Supply Chain City last March 14, 2009. Top management together with employees gathered for this environmental program. Previously, the green campaign was kicked off via a celebration of World Environment Day last June 2007. The event featured a photo exhibit consisting of nature and landscape photo submissions by employees and a film showing promoting environmental awareness. Guest speaker Wang Huali, head of a Dongguan-based environmental organization called Lu Se Zhu Jiang supported the event. Others green activities include the formation of an employee-volunteers group - Green Club; energy saving campaigns; steam recycling; emission reduction and waste water treatment and conservation.
