Luen Thai Holdings Limited has been announced the Overall Winner of the People Management Awards 2006 conferred by the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management and South China Morning Post (HKIHRM/SCMP). The award is the first HR programme of its kind that distinguishes the people management initiatives of companies that have achieved outstanding results for the organization and its stakeholders, including the employees, through a coherent and strategic approach.
Luen Thai’s project called “Supply Chain City HR” earned the nod of the judges as it highlighted the company’s distinct people management initiatives beyond the traditional HR infrastructure. The strategy focused on the attraction, accelerated HR capability building, and the alignment of cost-efficient, value-centered HR teams and processes, throughout the migration to and expansion of the Supply Chain City, Luen Thai’s 1.5-million-square-foot manufacturing facility in the remote town of Fenggang in Dongguan, Southern China.
Apart from emerging as the first overall winner of this annual award, Luen Thai Holdings bested other competing companies from the Large Enterprise category.
Frank Sauceda, Luen Thai Holdings’ senior vice president for corporate human resources, noted, “We take pride in our ability in bringing value to the organization. Almost everything we do is linked to our performance-driven leadership culture. Our conscious decision to revolutionize and transform the way we do things, and rallying our stakeholders to support the project, is for us a major feat.”
Lai Kam-tong, chairperson of the Awards Organizing Committee and President of HKIHRM, said, “Luen Thai’s project is strongly linked to the company’s vision and business goals. Its corporate human resources team has played an active and important role in the planning process with the top management as their major ‘sponsor’. We have also seen the team’s tremendous efforts in staff communication to fully engage the employees in the change process. The highly diversified and motivated workforce has also been very impressive.”
The People Management Awards attracted entries from a broad spectrum of industries, covering medium and large organizations that are operating in Hong Kong. After a rigorous assessment and judging process conducted between September 2006 and January 2007, the final results were formally presented at the SCMP/HKIHRM Human Capital in Greater China Conference held at the JW Marriott Hong Kong on February 6, 2007.
