In March 2007, Elyse Nicole Tosi, together with her fellow MBA students and faculty members at Philadelphia University, were on a 10-day tour of different companies in southern China to learn about global business practices. Their itinerary included Luen Thai Holdings Limited's Supply Chain City in Dongguan.
Three months later, on July 9, Elyse officially joined Luen Thai as executive trainee for its ladies fashion division GJM/TellaS. Her visit to the company impressed her so much that she felt Luen Thai represented the culmination of everything she learned throughout her undergraduate studies as a fashion apparel management major.
"I'm also passionate about traveling," Elyse said in a letter to senior vice president for corporate human resources Frank Sauceda. She added China opened her eyes to an area she would love to explore. Her work as executive trainee will involve liaising with Luen Thai customers in the US and colleagues based in China.
By late July, Elyse flew from New York to Dongguan to familiarize herself more with her work and the company's operation. She is directly reporting to Anne Mok, executive vice president of Luen Thai and managing director of GJM/TellaS.
Asked how she feels to be in China and member of Luen Thai, Elyse said: "I'm really excited to be part of Luen Thai, to learn more about this company and contribute to its impressive operations. China is also an exciting place to be. I plan to learn Mandarin. I already bought a book and CD," she added with a smile.
